Information For Parents

If you're reading this, then it's likely you have a child who is reaching a milestone in their education, and you're helping them make important decisions about their future. SS&L understand this can be an anxious and testing time, with advice and options coming from many different directions.

At SS&L, we specialise in Apprenticeships and Traineeships (Pre-Apprenticeships) and also offer GCSE retakes and vocational courses. We're here to help you understand the options your child has.

The Government has invested significantly in Apprenticeships and Traineeships and will continue to do so in the future. Gone are the days when Apprenticeships were only considered for those not academically suitable for higher education.

There is no student debt with Apprenticeships. In fact, your child will be paid to learn! The Government funds your child's Apprenticeship qualification and their employer pays them at least the national minimum Apprenticeship wage.

Why Your Child Should Consider An Apprenticeship

Apprenticeships offer a different way of learning, with the possibility of reaching the same goals a traditional academic route would offer. Some students find the less formal, more adult approach to learning, coupled with hands on practical experience, a far more rewarding and successful way of completing further education.

How Can Your Child Benefit?

  • Gaining a recognised vocational qualification, delivered by an OFSTED rated education provider and assessed by formal awarding bodies
  • Being employed by a local company where they will gain invaluable "on the job" experience, not generally available via an academic route
  • Earning a wage, which will be at least the minimum Apprenticeship wage, but is often more
  • Getting ahead of their peers by gaining confidence, skills and experience in the workplace, as well as their qualification
  • Being able to access higher education/University degrees through their Apprenticeship qualifications.
