Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools

Overview

This Level 3 nationally recognised qualification is for you if you work in a classroom or learning support role and offer specialist support for pupils in primary, secondary or specialist schools.

It will help improve your skills and progress your career and is especially designed for people who would like to become a teaching assistant, learning support assistant or a SEN assistant or gain a promotion to become a senior teaching assistant.

The focus of the course is to train you further in child development, health and safety, building relationships and supporting pupils' learning. With the extra skills and knowledge will come growing confidence and the opportunity to demonstrate competence to employers in order to advance your career.

Entry Requirements

    • A relevant L2 qualification.
    • Significant experience working in a classroom.
    • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
    • Minimum of 16 paid hours per week working in a school.

 

Teaching & Learning

  • This course is rolling so can be joined at any point in the year. As a competence qualification it will need the support of an employer. Learning will be varied and will include workplace learning and training workshops run by our expert tutors with PowerPoints, videos, tutor-led group discussions and group work so you will get to meet other people on a similar journey to you.

    There is also a requirement of a few hours of individual and home study and there may be the requirement of witness testimonies from the workplace. You will have one-to-one session with your tutor and access to online resources. Your tutor will regularly visit the workplace to observe you carrying out the job to complete the competence element and to give you training and feedback. An e-portfolio will be used for collection and submission of evidence.

Progression Routes

Those progressing from a Level 3 qualification may want to consider a Foundation Degree, or Level 4 Certificate for the Advanced Practitioner in Schools and Colleges.

Fee Information

The cost of the course is £2225 but you could be eligible for full or part funding - Discretionary Support Funds or an Advanced Learner Loan.

There are eligibility requirements to have the course fully funded including being a current UK resident, aged 19+ and having lived in the EU for at least 3 years - please enquire with our enrolment team.

Loan eligibility doesn't depend on your income and there are no credit checks. You'll have to pay your loan back when both the following apply:

  • you've finished your course
  • you earn more than £25,000 a year

Loan Bursary Fund

You may also be eligible for money from the Advanced Learner Loan Bursary Fund if you need help with some costs while studying, for example childcare, travel or trips related to your course.

Additional Information

Learners will be required to take part in an interview in order to check suitability for the course. Learners are required to be employed in a school in order to undertake this qualification. The qualification is run on a roll-on/roll-off basis so learners may begin at any point in the year. Units are externally set for learners which are then internally assessed. Witness records from the work-place may be required.
