L2 Award In Support Work In Schools

Overview

This qualification is an ideal opportunity for developing the knowledge and gaining information required for working in a primary or secondary school. It is suitable for anyone working in a support role within a school (either paid or voluntary), or anyone who has aspirations to work with children.

This qualification is purely knowledge-based. Learners will gain knowledge of Child Development, Safeguarding, Communication, Equality and how schools operate as organisations. Learners need to achieve a total of 12 credits.

Entry Requirements

  • A good level of Literacy and Numeracy skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Teaching & Learning

    • Teaching sessions at a local SS&L centre which will be directly linked to each specific unit
    • Sessions will incorporate a combination of tutor-led discussions, group activities and independent/group research
    • One to one support from a SS&L tutor
    • Average requirement of 1 - 2 hours per week of home study

    Progression Routes

    This qualification covers the knowledge units which are part of the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools and is, therefore, the perfect stepping stone for those wishing to progress onto this qualification.

    Fee Information

    To be eligible for government funded subsidised fees for this course you must:

    • Be aged 19 or over as at 31 August 2019
    • Lived in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years
    • Must currently reside in England

    You could be eligible for up to 100% reduction in published fees, dependent on the level of the qualification that you choose.  This will be discussed with you when you apply.

    If you are not eligible for the 100% Fee remission, you will be required to pay the standard costs, or in the case of Level 3, you could apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

    You might be able to apply for Discretionary Support Funds to help support these costs, please enquire at the time of Application.

    Additional Information

    Learners will be required to take part in an interview to assess suitability. The qualification operates on a roll on/roll off basis so learners can begin at any point in the year. Evidence is submitted via on-line portfolios. Evidence is assessed against external standards by internal assessment.
