Introducing Apprenticeships

It's long been recognised that having a motivated, educated and skilled workforce can help a business flourish. Organisations that invest in their people often thrive because a team that feels valued delivers loyalty and commitment in return.

Apprenticeships are increasingly becoming a successful and recognised way of building a workforce which is not only trained and educated in your industry, but which also gains their skills and experience within your culture, working to your methods.

Apprenticeships allow you to develop staff who are bespoke to your company. With minimal initial investment, you can develop an employee whilst knowing they are gaining the education and qualifications required for them to deliver value to your business now and in the future. An apprentice is a true return on investment.

You can find out more about Apprenticeships in this government Guide, and yuo can also find out about the Appenticeship Levy.

What Is An Apprenticeship?

In the past, apprenticeships focused around trades and industry, and traditionally were promoted to young people who were considered unable, or unwilling, to tackle an academic path. Today this is no longer the case.

Apprenticeships are offered across a huge variety of business sectors, from the traditional construction trade routes right through to retail, hospitality, business and even law. They have been changed and developed with the recognition that not everyone thrives in a purely academic setting, with many people vastly more successful if they combine their education with practical, hands-on experience, complemented by on-the-job mentoring.

Apprenticeships are not just for school leavers. Anyone over 16 years, with GCSEs or equivalents, can take up an apprenticeship and they can even be offered to your existing workforce to help them gain the qualifications needed to progress their career.

Usually starting at a Level 2, Intermediate Apprenticeship, apprentices can then progress through different levels with the opportunity to move onto a foundation degree and then a full degree if they wish.

A modern apprenticeship gives someone the opportunity to learn, earn and gain valuable work experience in an increasingly competitive job market - all without an onerous student debt. This is why more and more people are looking at apprenticeships as a viable and valuable route to education and career progression.
